Art Festivals & Events
The BN area is also home to numerous special events that give artists a chance to showcase their work. The Sugar Creek Arts Festival, for example, is held annually in Uptown Normal, inviting more than 100 local, regional, and national artists to McLean County since 1983 — and drawing thousands of admirers to enjoy fine arts and crafts as well as live music.
Showcasing Local Talent
Galleries and exhibitions around the BN area shine a spotlight on the most creative minds around McLean County, IL. Rich, diverse, and suiting all tastes, local galleries and studios invite enthusiasts to marvel at the visual masterpieces created in our own backyard. Additionally, the work of creative students from around the world is displayed at our local colleges with University Galleries at Illinois State University, The Merwin and Wakeley Galleries at Illinois Wesleyan University, and the Joe McCauley Art Gallery at Heartland Community College highlighting the work of young artists drawing from global influences.
Public Works
Adorning city streets, buildings, and parks, the outdoor art scene in the BN area is truly inspiring as murals and sculptures add vibrant colors and visually stunning photo ops to their respective surroundings. Outdoor artworks in Downtown Bloomington, Normal, and McLean, for example, add a touch of whimsy to your adventure and serve as the perfect backdrops for Instagrammable selfies.
Teaching Tomorrow’s Innovators
Art education programs in the BN area provide a space for young, creative minds to express themselves while also providing a space for adults to learn a new skill or advance their professional capabilities. Programs at ISU, IWU, and Heartland — including the Design Streak Studio at the ISU Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts — offer state-of-the-art spaces for artists to flourish and fine-tune their abilities through experimentation and discovery.
