Raise the Banner, Red & White!

Founded in 1857, Illinois State University (ISU) in Normal is one of Illinois’ oldest institutions of higher learning. Known for its strong academic programs, ISU offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees across numerous fields, including education, business, arts, and sciences. The university is home to more than 20,000 students, fostering a diverse campus life through numerous organizations and activities. ISU prides itself on its commitment to individualized attention, excellence in teaching, and community engagement. Its beautiful campus and distinguished faculty make it a leader in higher education in the Midwest.

Explore the Campus

The 490-acre Quad is the center of student life at ISU, offering plenty of space for students to take a breath of fresh air between classes. Since 1995, the entire campus has been recognized as a certified arboretum — named Fell Arboretum after the university’s founder, Jesse W. Fell — with thousands of trees across 90 species. Additionally, the campus is home to the Center for the Performing Arts at the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts, hosting concerts and live performances throughout the academic year.

Uncover the Uptown

Mere steps away from the ISU campus, Uptown Normal provides a cultural hub full of opportunities for shopping, dining, and entertainment, including the historic Normal Theater, an Art Moderne masterpiece that hosts films and live performances under a dazzling marquee. Plus, an Amtrak station offering direct access to Chicago and St. Louis as well as numerous hotels in the district make Uptown Normal a convenient base for families during their ISU visit.
